chp8 Quote-"There were no prayers at his grave. No candles were lit to his memory. His last word was my name. A summons, to which I did not respond."(page 116 weisel)

Analysis-This means that the father cares for his son.

chp9 Quote-"Our first act as free men was to throw ourselves onto the provisions. We thought only of that. Not of revenge, not of our families. Nothing but bread."(page 119 weisel)

Chp 6Quote-"Pitch darkness. Every now and then, an explosion in the night. They had orders to fire on any who could not keep up. Thier fingers on the triggers, they did not deprive themselves of this pleasure. If one of us stopped for a second, a sharp shot finished off another filthy son of a bitch."(wiesel page 91)

Analysis-It shows how depressed everything was back then. It also is giving hints that the war is coming to a close. This means no more war in germany.

Chp 5
Quote-"On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the last day of that accursed year, the whole camp was electric with the tension which was in all our hearts. In spite of everything, this day was different from any other. The last day of the year. The word last rang very strangely. What if it were indeed the last day?"(wiesel page 73)

Analysis-The eve of Rosh Hashanah if the same as new years eve for us. They thought it was the end of them but it wasn't. It turned out to be the beginning of the war being over.

Quote-"At the beginning of the third week, the prisoner in charge of our block was deprived of his office, being considered too humane. Our new head was savage, and his assistants were real monsters. The good days were over. We began to wonder if it would not be better to let oneself be chosen for the next move."(page 52,53 wiesel)

Analysis-It means that because he was to nice they got rid of him. Thier new head is not so nice along with his minions.

The grand cayon was a beautiful place. When I first went there I could not catch my own breath. It was as if it was a giant mouth ready to gooble you up.The river was like an army going into a trap at the end. The ridges are ful of wild life. The smell of it was like grass and pine trees.

The experience was amazing. The landscape was like a human face ful of acne. There was bushes everywhere, but a few trees were there, too. The sides of the canyon were extraordinary with detail and precision. It was almost barren with no life.
